Concrete Patio Slabs

Plan a patio slab around intended use, future loads, drainage, subgrade, reinforcement, utilities, access, and any structure that may sit above it.

All Services

Is this the concrete service you need?

Modern interior courtyard with concrete walls and plants

This page covers slabs intended for patio use. A slab designed only as an uncovered walking surface may need a different approach from one expected to support a roof, posts, outdoor kitchen, enclosure, or other future structure.

Define future loads now

Dimensions, elevation, slope, drainage, subgrade, reinforcement, joints, edges, utilities, access, demolition, adjacent foundations, and the planned finish all affect the scope. If a covered patio or
structure may be added, disclose it before the slab is designed rather than treating it as a later finish
decision.

What to share

Provide the property location and type, proposed dimensions and use, photos, survey if available, current
surface, drainage concerns, utility plans, access limits, desired finish, and any future roof, posts,
equipment, or outdoor kitchen. Include existing design or engineering documents.

Can a patio cover be added later?

Possibly, but the future structure’s loads, supports, connections, slab or footing design, drainage, and
applicable requirements must be considered. An existing slab should not be assumed to support new
construction.
Share the slab size, intended use, site conditions, utilities, and any future structure.
